Sabres’ rough start may have some positives

It’s been a rough start to the season for the Buffalo Sabres. They already lost their #1 goalie and speedy, physical winger Evander Kane fo11417441_703742889769526_688813338_nr 4-6 weeks with an MCL injury. The team is 3-6-0 after their win in Philadelphia in overtime, but it’s not exactly unexpected to see some growing pains from a team that has so many new faces along with the key injuries.

Not to worry about another dreadful season Sabres fans; there are positives from the first nine games. Newcomer Ryan O’Reilly has been making the biggest offensive impact with 8 points in 9 games, but it’s his two-way play and leadership that has been most impressive. To add, his defensive play, faceoff abilities, and hustle stand out, as he’s consistently been the best Sabre night in and night out.

O’Reilly seems to bring it all. He’s on the first line, rightfully so, he plays special teams, and he does the little things right. You’ll constantly see O’Reilly in good defensive positioning, breaking up plays. Hockey fans have seen how effective Jonathon Toews has been for Chicago and their success; O’Reilly can give the same kind of playing style and leadership Toews does to the Buffalo Sabres.

Things are looking bright for the Sabres’ future, and it looks as if O’Reilly is going to be a significant factor in their success.
