Released on October 16th, the film boasts a great cast including Mia Wasikowska, Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain, Charlie Hunnam, and Jim Beaver. The film was directed and written by Guillermo Del Toro, so if you’re a fan of his, you’ll know what to expect.

The film follows the story of young Edith Cushing, played by Wasikowska, an eager author who believes in ghosts. We then learn she once had an encounter with her mother’s ghost at a young age saying “beware of Crimson Peak.” Of course, no one knows what that means yet. Long story short, she ends up falling for a British Englishman, Sir Thomas Sharpe played by Tom Hiddleston, and the two eventually marry. Soon after, she moves to his huge estate in England with him and his sister played by Chastain. As the movie goes on, Edith soon realizes she has no idea who she married, what actually happened within the rooms of the mansion and what Crimson Peak actually means.

Just because the plot seems a tad complicated, the acting makes up for it. Each of the actors played their characters very well, but Chastain definitely stole the show. If you had seen the trailer, the gloomy vibe displayed then was portrayed throughout the whole movie. Although most of the movie was dark and somewhat creepy, Del Torro did a great job with the visuals. Known for his previous themes of horror and poetic style, this film was no short of entertaining to watch.

If you’re worried about jump scares, don’t be. There aren’t many of them to begin with. If you end up being scared of anything, it will probably be the fact that you’ll unexpectedly end up falling in love with the plot.
